ANOTHER tutorial on ROLLS--including a fun variation.
Disclaimer: I'm not wearing make-up in these pictures. And they are pretty shitty. Seriously, I don't usually look that scary.

1: The Stuff.
Bobby pins. Teasing comb. A "granny brush". Hairspray. Shine Spray or serum.

2: Create Roll #1. Part your hair from your center (or side part) to the top of your ear. It doesn't have to be perfect, because it wont be seen.

3: Tease.
Spray underside of your section with a bit of hairspray. Take your granny brush and "backcomb" your hair. This means, you hold the hair up and brush the backside down towards your scalp. Next, "pack" your tease. Take the teasing comb and push all that teasing down to the very base of your parting. Don't be shy--make it big. Rolls with some height look a lot better and more authentic than ones flush with your head. The higher the hair the closer to heaven, right? After your hair is backcombed and packed, it should be able to stand up on it's own.

4: Roll It.
Since I have started with my left side, I twist hair counter-clockwise and tuck the end under. If your first roll is on the right side, twist the hair clockwise.

5: Pin It.
Secure with a bobby pin. Personally, I start by pinning only ONE in and then shaping it to my liking before adding any others.

6: Fine Tune.
Smooth it all out. Make sure there aren't funky things sticking out. Add more pins if needed. Spray some hairspray to keep it nice.

7: Create Roll #2.
Repeat step 7. Pretty much the same thing. Except on the other side of your head.

8: Tease.
Tease that hair! Take a look at step 3 if your forgot how. Can your hair stand on its own? Good.

9: Roll It.
Twist hair clockwise if your are on your right side. If your second roll is on the left, twist counter-clockwise.

10: Pin It.
Secure with a bobby pin. The pinning once and then fixing and adding more pins is just my preference. If you'd rather put 6 pins in all at once, go for it. But it is harder to manipulate, if needed.

VARIATION:

11: Make a Pomp.
Take a front section, kinna like you're going to do a small pomp. Backcomb and pack it.

12.: Pomp.
Twist it over to the side and create a little curl. Same idea as a regular roll, just horizontal, instead of vertical.

13: Rolls Do your side rolls. In case you forgot how, the instructions are above.

ADD ONS:

14: Accessorize.
Add your favorite cliche rockabilly accessory. Flowers, bandannas, or my personal favorite: FAKE HAIR! I use Jessica Simpson/Ken Pave's line. It's synthetic, which sucks because you can't curl it--but if you don't want to curl your OWN hair you can attach the top of the weft just under your rolls, from ear to ear. It completely covers your own hair. I added this to my hair in the picture below. The line is seamless.

15: Flower Placement.
Really, anywhere works. Play with it. If you think it looks stupid, it probably does. Try somewhere else.
